"You are a newborn mother. How would you like to restart your life?" - Ameya Duprey
A note from Our Founder, Andrea:
I met Ameya in my first Postpartum Ayurvedic training, in 2011, with our dear, departed teacher, Ysha Oakes. I had just experienced an unexpected miscarriage and it was both a supportive and bizarrely appropriate place to be. I was immediately at ease with Ameya. Her knowledge of Ayurveda was secure, deep and compelled by a love and thirst for knowledge that mirrored my own. Ameya felt like an instant friend, and exactly who you might want to be around, should you be going through something as tender and personal as a miscarriage or a birth. She is a trusted colleague, friend and admired ally on the path to bring the wisdom of Ayurveda to all those who need it. She was one of our inspirations behind "The Mother".
Ameya Duprey is the author of Mama's Menu: Ayurvedic Recipes for Postpartum Healing, taking the new mother through 6 weeks and more of delicious recipes and education on Ayurvedic Postpartum self-care. Her book ensures that anyone can prepare delicious, stage appropriate foods for for their loved ones or use to organize a meal train.
Ameya is a board certified Ayurvedic practitioner and Licensed massage therapist, as well as a Certified Ayurvedic Postpartum Doula.
In 2004, she finished her Ayurvedic training at the Alandi Ayurveda Gurukula, with Alakananda Ma, with a focus on the cleansing and rejuvenating therapies of Pancha Karma. In 2011, she began specializing in the field of Ayurvedic postnatal care. Ameya soon realized how essential an Ayurvedic postnatal diet was for the healing of both mother and baby. She started her postpartum care blog in 2018, with the purpose of educating new Mothers and their caregivers how to have vital postpartum recoveries through the natural practices of Ayurveda. Topics in her ShaktiCare™ blog include postpartum care, diet, recipes, natural newborn care and breastfeeding.
Ameya has been a vegetarian since the age of 15, but only when she began her formal training in Ayurveda 5 years later did she truly learn how to cook healthy and well-balanced vegetarian meals. Cooking delicious vegetarian food has been her passion for the last two decades. Check out this months delightful recipe, Yam Halwa with Cardamom Cream (its really sweet potato, but you could also use true yam.)
